Discounted Bus Passes to be Discontinued

On Monday, November 5th, Saskatoon City Council will be voting on cancelling the Discounted Bus Passes and Leisure Cards that are currently available for social assistance recipients. Despite arguments made to the city's Finance and Administration Committee last Monday, it is recommended that the Discounted Bus Pass and Leisure Card be discontinued as of January 1, 2008.

What can we do about this?
1. Attend the council meeting at 6:30pm, Monday, November 5th. Buttons will be handed out for people to wear. We want to fill the gallery to overflowing to send the message to city council that cancelling the subsidized bus passes and the leisure passes is not the will of the people of this city. If nothing else, it will adversely impact the health of those who are currently in receipt of these passes.
2. Contact your city councillor and express your concern.
3. Write letters and/or call your MLA; this is a city/provincial partnership and the MLAs also need to support this program.
4. Write a letter to the editor of the Star Phoenix.
5. Make this an election issue. Ask your candidate where they stand.

Thank you.

Presbyterian Question - October 28, 2007

Presbyterian Churches are also called "Reformed Churches" - What does this mean?
Find out next Sunday morning, 11 a.m. @ worship.

Presbyterianism 101 - Date changed for final class

Thanks to everyone who came out on Wednesday evenings during October to take part in Presbyterianism 101. You made it a great class with all your questions and thoughtful contributions.
Please note: Our final class will not be on Wednesday, October 31st - That's Hallowe'en! Instead, we will meet on Monday, November 5th @ 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Join the Choir for Christmas!

Believe it or not, Christmas will be here before you know it! The St. Andrew's Choir is ready to start practising Christmas music for this special time of year.
You are warmly invited to join the choir for the Christmas season. We plan to start into the Christmas music at our regular practice on Thursday, November 1st @ 7:30 p.m. Use the parking lot side door, come up the stairs, and join us in the sanctuary.

Presbyterian Question - October 21, 2007

Why do Presbyterians like committees so much?

23rd Annual Festival of Faith: Side by Side in Faith

The 23rd annual Festival of Faith will be held on Sunday, October 28th at 2 p.m. This year's theme is "Side by Side in Faith." The Congregation Agudus Israel (715 McKinnon Ave.) will again host the religious community of Saskatoon for this important festival.
Come join in Saskatoon's multi-faith expression of its spiritual traditions expressed through speech, music, and dance - a celebration for all ages brought together from the four corners of the earth! Free admission. Refreshments served.

New Photo Directory

The Pastoral Care Committee is putting together a new photo directory of church members and adherents. It's a great way to get to know everybody in our church! (It's also a great way for you to get a nice new photo of yourself or your family - in time for Christmas.)
Schedule your photo sitting A.S.A.P. by contacting Anne Cook. Anne will be calling everyone who doesn't sign up to book a sitting during the week of October 23-29, so save her some time and sign up right away.

No other name? Can only Christians be saved?

The Prairie Centre for Ecumenism will present another workshop for lay leaders in local congregations on Saturday, November 3 from 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m. The subject "No other name? Can only Christians be saved?" will be presented by the PCE director, Rev. Dr. Jan Bigland-Pritchard, at St. Timothy's Anglican Church (2 blocks south of Taylor on Lansdowne) in Saskatoon. Lay leaders and ecumenical contacts will be led by Jan through a consideration of the spectrum of views among Christians about the eternal destiny on non-Christians. John Sanders' book of the same title will be used as a resource.

What's Your Mission?

Calling all YOUNG ADULTS! An event just for YOU!
Join the van leaving from S'toon for a weekend of conversation, food, thought and relaxation: November 9-11, 2007.
Gather with other Presbyterians from around AB, BC and SK at beautiful Camp Kannawin, Sylvan Lake AB.

Presbyterian Question - October 14, 2007

This week's Presbyterian question:
For better or for worse, Presbyterians are associated with the Doctrine of Predestination.
What is the Doctrine of Predestination?
Think about it, do some reading, talk to some other Presbyterians. We'll talk about it next Sunday.

Youth Group Coffee House

The St. Andrew's Youth Group invites everyone to our first Coffee House of the year! Sunday October 28th at 7:30 p.m. in the lower hall at the church.
Prepare yourself for a great evening of music, drama, comedy, and great food. Fair trade decaf coffee and other beverages will be served.
There is no admission charge, but donations will be gratefully accepted - proceeds go to our fund for youth conferences and events. See you there!

Do you play an instrument? Do you sing?

Do you have musical talents that you would like to offer for the glory of God? You are always welcome to join the choir, but you are also welcome to share your musical talents in other ways at St. Andrew's, whether solos, instrumental offerings, or other special music. Please speak to Gillian, Adam, or Amanda if you would like to contribute to the ministry of music.
