Membership Classes - Nov 8, 15, & 22MEMBERSHIP CLASSES will be held at St. Andrew’s on Saturday mornings (10 AM – NOON) November 8, 15, & 22. This is an opportunity for youth and adults who are thinking about making a profession of faith and joining the church. But it is also a great way to explore your faith, ask questions, and learn together. The classes are open to newcomers and current members alike, including youth grade 9 and up as well as adults. We will explore some basic Christian theology and learn about the structure and doctrine of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Please speak to Amanda if you are planning to attend or if you have any questions about this program. Two Great Workshops! - Saturday, Oct. 25The Prairie Centre for Ecumenism presents... "All the Saints Gather for Prayer: theory and practice of prayer together for Christian unity and reconciliation." An Ecumenical Contacts Workshop, led by Nick Jesson and Amanda Currie with others, will take place at St. Andrew’s on Sat, Oct 25th from 8:30 AM to noon. Everyone is welcome. St. Andrew's Worship Committee presents... "SOUND ADVICE", Sat, Oct 25th from 2:00-4:00 PM
"Simply Sacraments" - Oct 22, 29, & Nov 5ANNOUNCING AN ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY at St. Andrew's! If you enjoyed the "Bible Basics" class in the spring, don't miss the upcoming series, "Simply Sacraments". In three Wednesday evenings (Oct 22, 29 & Nov 5, 7:00-8:30 PM) we will explore the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, their meaning and significance in our Presbyterian Church and in the wider Christian church. This week's "Simply Sacraments" quiz question: The Presbyterian Church in Canada baptizes infants, children, youth, and adults. "Living Faith" states that baptism "is a sacrament meant for those who profess their faith and for their children." (Living Faith, 7.6.3) Where in the Bible do we find a clear indication that baptism is meant not only for believing adults, but also for our children? Come to the class on Wednesday evening to discover the answer to this and other questions. Parkview Church Closing Worship - Oct. 5, 2008After 97 years of Christian ministry in Saskatoon, Parkview Presbyterian Church is closing its doors. The church began as Mayfair Presbyterian Church in 1911, and was the only Presbyterian congregation in Saskatoon that voted not to enter the union in 1925 that formed the United Church of Canada. Shortly after the vote against union, Mayfair began to grow rapidly and the congregation decided to move to a larger building. They set up their new church on Avenue E overlooking the park, and renamed themselves, "Parkview Presbyterian Church." You are welcome to join the Presbytery of Northern Saskatchewan and the people of Parkview Church for their closing worship on Sunday, October 5th at 4:00 p.m. This is a very difficult time for the people of Parkview, so please keep them in your prayers. |
