Environmental Stewardship Lunch - Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009

You are invited to an
Environmental Stewardship Lunch
on Sunday, February 1st

following the worship service at St. Andrew's.

Plan to stay after church to enjoy some delicious,
warm soup with your church family.
Bring your own non-disposable bowl.
We'll provide the spoons.

After lunch we will learn some more about our human impact on the earth. We'll be watching a short video (20 minutes) called The Story of Stuff.

Written and narrated by Annie Leonard, The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. All the stuff in our lives, beginning from the extraction of the resources to make it, through its production, sale, use and disposal, affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view.

The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues and calls for all of us to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something. It'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

This event is brought to you by the St. Andrew's Stewardship Committee. We hope to see you on Sunday, February 1, 2009.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: Jan. 18-25, 2009

This is a special week for the Christian community in Saskatoon. We come together to worship together and to pray for the unity of the church. Check the back of your St. Andrew's January calendar for the list of worship opportunities throughout the city, or go to the Ecumenism in Canada website to find the same list. Highlights of the week include:
  • Sunday, Jan. 18th @ 3:00 p.m. - Opening Worship at Trinity Lutheran Church
  • Sunday, Jan. 25th @ 3:00 p.m. - Concluding Worship at McClure United Church
  • Friday, Jan. 23rd @ 7:30 p.m. - "Wine, Worship, & Praise" an informal evening for young adults of all ages (at St. Philip Neri RC Parish, Taylor & Munroe)
Queen's House is also hosting their annual Scripturefest on Sat. Jan. 24th on the 2009 Week of Prayer theme: "That They May Become One in Your Hand" (Ezekiel 37:17).

Bible Bingo & Potluck Supper - January 11, 2008

The Christian Education Committee invites one and all to a Bible Bingo & Potluck Supper on Sunday, January 11th.

We'll gather in the lower hall at 4:00 p.m. for a Bible game that's suitable for all ages. (No gambling involved!) It's an opportunity to test your Bible knowledge, and to learn more about the good book that we love so much!

We'll have a great learning time together, and then enjoy food and fellowship with a potluck supper at about 5:15 p.m. Bring something to share, plus your own plate and cutlery.

Sunday Morning Bible Study

Sunday Morning Bible Study will resume on Sunday, January 11th. We meet at 9:30 a.m. in the parlour, and everyone is welcome. Please use the parking lot side door, and stop by the kitchen for a cup of coffee on your way up.

With a new year, we are beginning a new series of studies. We will be looking at a variety of women in the Bible, using materials from "The Thoughtful Christian". Most of the studies can stand on their own, so feel free to come when you can.

You can pick up the background reading materials for each study in the parlour (or ask Rev. Amanda to email you a copy). This is the plan for our upcoming sessions:
  • January 11th - Mary and Martha
  • January 18th - Mary Magdalene: Tradition and Gospel (Session 1)
  • January 25th - Mary Magdalene: Tradition and Gospel (Session 2)
  • February 1st - Mary, Mother of Jesus
  • February 8th - Paul & the Role of Women in the Church (Session 1)
  • February 15th - Paul & the Role of Women in the Church (Session 2)
  • February 22nd - Priscilla
  • March 1st - Ruth
