Saskatoon Presbyterians Together in Lent

You are invited to join with the Presbyterian community in Saskatoon for these upcoming events to begin the Season of Lent:

TUES, FEB. 24: PANCAKE & SAUSAGE SUPPER @ Calvin Goforth Church (1602 Sommerfeld Ave). Share in the Shrove Tuesday tradition of eating pancakes on “Mardi Gras” before the season of Lent begins. Come for pancakes between 5 PM and 7 PM. A free will offering will be received to support the Prairie Centre for Ecumenism and PWS&D. (This event is being supported by other churches in the Nutana neighbourhood.)

WED, FEB. 25: ASH WEDNESDAY SUPPER & WORSHIP @ St. Andrew’s. We begin the season of Lent together with a simple supper in the lower hall at 6 PM, followed by worship upstairs at 6:45 PM. The worship will include an opportunity to receive ashes on the forehead – a sign of humility and repentance.

WED, MAR. 18: SHARING CIRCLE WITH THE REV. STEWART FOLSTER & THE REV. GORDON WILLIAMS @ St. Andrew’s. We will share a simple supper in the lower hall at 6 PM, followed by a sharing circle at 6:45 PM.

Election of Ruling Elders - February 22, 2009

The Session of St. Andrew’s has received and approved a number of nominations for eldership in the church, and four candidates have agreed to let their names stand for election as ruling elders.

Therefore, the Session is calling a congregational meeting on Sunday, February 22, 2009, following the regular Sunday worship service for the election of new elders. The names on the ballot will be Logan de Bruijn, Blair Lukan, Lydia Lukan, and Adela MacDonald. Short biographies of the candidates will be included in Sunday's church bulletin, and members are encouraged to pray and discern together whether God may be calling these people to the ministry of ruling eldership among us.

Click here to read the candidates' biographies online.

School Break Program - February 18-20

We are planning a special program for children in Grades 1-8 during the winter school break. We will meet on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning (9 AM - NOON), Feb. 18-20. There is no charge for this program, and a healthy snack will be provided.

With special guests from the Saskatoon Native Circle Ministry, our theme will be “Meeting First Nations Friends in Canada”. Registration forms are available at the 20th Street door at the church, or by emailing the church office.

Any youth or adults who would like to help out with the program should speak to Rev. Amanda and come to the planning meeting in the parlour after worship on Sunday, Feb. 8th.
