We will gather in the park at 8:00 a.m. for an early-morning worship service in celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Breakfast will be served at about 9:00 a.m. by our Presbyterian Youth in the lower hall of St. Andrew's. A free will offering will be received to send our youth to Canada Youth 2009.

Earth Hour - Saturday, March 28, 2009 @ 8:30 p.m.

On March 28th you can VOTE EARTH by switching off your lights for one hour. Or you can vote global warming by leaving your lights on. The results of the election are being presented at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. We want one billion votes for Earth, to tell world leaders that we have to take action against global warming. For more information, go to the Earth Hour website.

St. Andrew's will also be hosting a worship service during Earth Hour. Join us in “voting earth” on Saturday, March 28th for a candle light worship service of prayer for the Earth, God’s creation. We will turn off the lights and begin worship at 8:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.

Ordination of Elders - March 22, 2009

The Session of St. Andrew's is happy to announce the impending ordination of four new elders. Adela MacDonald, Lydia Lukan, Blair Lukan, and Logan deBruijn will be ordained to the Ministry of Ruling Eldership on Sunday, March 22nd, 2009 at the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the call of these four members of our congregation to a ministry of leadership within our church.

There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; There are varieties of services, but the same Lord; There are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each one is given a gift by the spirit, to use it for the common good. Together we are the body of Christ, and individually members of it. (based on 1 Corinthians 12)

Sharing Circle - Wednesday, March 18, 2009

You are invited to join other Saskatoon Presbyterians for an Aboriginal Sharing Circle at St. Andrew's this Wednesday (March 18th). The circle will be led by the Rev. Stewart Folster of Saskatoon Native Circle Ministry, and special guest the Rev. Gordon Williams.

Gordon is an Aboriginal person, and one of the first Native Canadians to be ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacraments in our church. He currently lives in the Ottawa area, and we are fortunate to be able to host him for part of his visit to the Prairies.

We hope you will come to learn and share together with Rev. Stewart and Rev. Gordon and some Saskatoon Presbyterians. We will begin with a simple supper of bannock and stew at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Sharing Circle at about 6:45 p.m.

Goulash Lunch - Sunday, March 15, 2009

The Hildur Hermanson Women's Missionary Society group extends a warm invitation to one and all to attend a Goulash Lunch after the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, March 15th. "What's Goulash?" you may ask. It's a hearty Hungarian stew... very warm and yummy!

The lunch will be a fundraiser to assist the national Women's Missionary Society with the “Together We Can!” projects. The money raised will help the Reformed Church in Eastern Europe in buying School Supplies for their students and support the building of a hostel for the students at the Jobat Christian School in India. A video highlighting these projects will be shown after lunch.

There will be a freewill offering, and WMS envelopes will be available for income tax purposes. You are also invited to bring your own bowl, spoon, & cup for the meal (to save using disposable dishes and save our environment!).

Annual Financial Meeting - March 8, 2009

Please stay after worship on Sunday, March 8th, for lunch served by the Youth Group, and birthday cake in celebration of Rita Harrison’s 95th birthday.

Our Annual Financial Meeting will take place following lunch. Copies of the financial report for 2008 are available on the entranceway table or from the church office. Be sure to review the financial reports before the meeting, and come ready with any questions you may have.

There is no charge for the lunch, but donation baskets will be set out to receive your donations to support our youth to attend Canada Youth 2009. Child care will be provided by some of our youth in the nursery during the meeting.

World Day of Prayer - Friday, March 6, 2009

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: An ecumenical celebration on the theme “In Christ there are many members, yet one body” will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 6th at 2:00 PM. Join the downtown churches and share in the service written by the women of Papua New Guinea.

The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement which brings Christians of many traditions together to observe a common day of prayer each year. Through preparation and participation in the worship service, we can come to know how our sisters of other countries, languages and cultures understand the Biblical passages in their context. We can hear their concerns and needs and can feel ourselves in solidarity with them as we pray with and for them. In this way, it is possible to enrich our Christian faith as it grows deeper and broader in an international, ecumenical expression.

The motto of the World Day of Prayer movement is Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action. Through our participation in the World Day of Prayer, we affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and that both have immeasurable influence on the world.
